If your subject is too dark on a bright sunny day then move the camera down a little, away from the bright light, hold your finger halfway down on the shutter to keep the exposure and then re-compose the shot. You may find it hard to use the shutter button to control the exposure on your camera. Another technique to soften light in the day-time is to use fill-in flash.
