Image 1 - Direct flash gives cave effect, foreground bright, background dark |

Image 2 - Bounced flash at maximum Flash Exp Comp at 100 ISO - too dark |

Image 3 - ISO bumped to 200 - better |
 |
Image 4 - and at 400 ISO - just right |
If the highest Flash Exposure Compensation setting does not give you enough power to light the room, then using higher ISO numbers will help. Going from 100 ISO to 200 ISO will effectively double the effective power output of the flash, going to 400 ISO will double again, and so on (image 3 & 4, above).
BE WARNED! If you use high ISO numbers in normal lighting conditions it is very easy to end up with over-exposed shots. This is because the flash might have difficulty decreasing the power enough to give a correct flash exposure.
