Depth of Field Preview can make the viewfinder dark The Depth of Field Preview button can make the viewfinder go very dark, making it hard to see the depth of field you are going to get. Live View can compensate for this A way around this is to use Live View (if your camera has it). When you engage Depth of Field Preview in Live Mode, the LCD will try to compensate for the darkened image. This helps you see the depth of field you are about to record before you even shoot the photograph. Check this by enlarging the image on the back LCD (Images 1 to 3, above and right).. Some cameras have automatic DOF Preview NOTE: When in Live View Mode, some cameras already show you the Depth of Field Preview.
