Sports/action Mode or KIDS/PETS MODE These modes triy to set a fast shutter speed to help freeze moving objects such as cars, athletes and children. This button tells the camera to choose the fastest possible shutter speed for the light available as fast shutter speeds help freeze moving objects (Image 2). This mode usually disables the flash as well. NIGHT LANDSCAPE MODE or FIREWORKS MODE These modes can be used for night and low light shots. Canon SLRs must use either FLASH OFF or LANDSCAPE mode on the dial. This button tells the camera to choose the slowest possible shutter speed as slow shutter speeds let in more light. These slow shutter speeds will also blur moving objects.
A slow shutter speed means that camera must be supported on a tripod or wall etc. These modes need the SELF TIMER and will always prevent the flash from firing. SELF TIMER MODE This is normally used to give the camera a 10 second delay or less, which helps keep the camera steady while the shot is being taken. This can also be used for night shots without flash, to make sure you do not get camera shake. Some timers can be adjusted to shorter or longer durations. Where 'C' appears in a self timer icon it usually means that the camera will take a few shots at a time to help ensure you get a photograph with all eyes open..
