INTERMEDIATE TIP:
Increase ISO to get faster shutter speeds

  Spacer
Image 1 - Blurred photograph resulting from a shutter speed which is too slow for the focal length   Image 2 - Same photograph with camera set to 1600 ISO results in a sharper image but shot has much more ‘grain’ or ‘noise’

More ISO, more light

ISO is essentially a way to bring extra light into your camera when there more light is available. The higher the ISO number, the higher the shutter speed (see chart on the left).

Auto ISO does not always help

A reason not to choose Auto ISO is that it usually does not go to the highest ISO number available. If 6400 is the highest, then Auto ISO will choose a lower number, probably 3200. Try Sports Mode to see what ISO number it picks. Now see if you can go higher than that in Shutter Priority Mode

Higher ISO numbers bring more 'noise' into a shot, thus reducing the quality (Image 2, above). A way to find out the ISO number where the quality drops off, shoot a blue sky at the different ISOs (Image 3, below).
